What's in a NAME

I remember the song of "America" - The Horse with No Name. Of course there are animals that we knew only of their kinds but not all of them has a "given" name .Can u imagine or do you know a person without a name? All of us has a name, even before we were born, our parents already prepared a name for us,whether it's a boy or a girl.and it's a right of every child to be given a name.So every person has a birth certificate with their names written on it.

I guess during my parents time, they were not so particular regarding the spelling that was written on my Birth Certificate since i had a hard time the first time that i applied for a passport coz there were errors on it.and just a few weeks ago,per RA9048.i had to gather all documents that it needed to have my name changed from the name that was written on my BC to the name that i've been using since i started going to school, and had it published in a newspaper for 2 consecutive weeks then wait for 45working days to have it finally done.Mind you,It wasnt that easy!

And speaking of Birth Certificate, most of the time, whether we will apply for a job or going abroad,Authenticated BC from NSO are required.

So, have you imagined going to National Statistics Office and wait for a long lines of people that are waiting to be served?I am just living in Manila and it's just easy for me to go back and forth there but still I found it very tiring, how about those who live in the provinces?Sometimes if you'll get lucky, you'll get a negative result,or you have to come back for another day.

But I'm glad nowadays there are some improvements because now you can just apply to NSO near your place or you can just call their hotline and it will be delivered on your footsteps just after a few days.
See! at least we're improving! Only I hope it will improve more!more and more! :p

Pondering thoughts

It is a common knowledge that when you're dealing in any government offices, there's always corruption, but it's not only in government,it's EVERYWHERE.It's sad because we know that there are still some who believe in HONESTY but where are they? It's either they're being forgotten or they're being "washed out".That's why they say,"it's lonely to be corrupt"!It said that the government is for the people and by the people, the question is...people of what kind?If you will deal with those people, there's always money involved.others are secretive but a lot of them will tell you what and how much they want pointblank!

Can we blame them? It's a common "disease" because they've already gotten used to it.because we were the ones who made them like "buwaya".why? We bribe them,we offer them something which are hard to resist,we tempt them,we even tell other people to bribe them so you can have your papers faster,it's true!but then,if we are just consistent and we dont offer bribe, maybe, just maybe, they will do their work properly and we can have the papers that we needed at the right time.

Well, others may blame our government because they're, as we were told, the ones who are the most corrupt. But in reality,it's us who made them do it,we permit them to happen.if there's no one who gives,no one will receive.

Changes should start thru the people and with one good and capable person who will run and lead us into a better future.Do you agree?

It's not too late yet! is it?

November 1 - All Saints Day

It's being celebrated annually, and being declared as public holiday - November 1,All Saints Day.People from all over the Philippines gathered all together to visit the tombs of our departed loved ones. It's also the time that relatives who're living far away from each other get reunited again.Different cemeteries are jam-packed by people.

This morning,me together with my 11yr old son, elder sister and her 2 daughters went our way to visit my father's tomb at the Manila North Cemetery,we went there at 10am,there were lots of people who were just going inside the cemetery and lots were already leaving too, some were already there since Nov.30,they went there earlier to avoid the traffic of people.A lot of policemen were deployed all over the place to make sure everything is alright,i even saw some k9,red cross, media, but one thing i noticed,in every corner, every sidewalk, there were lots of vendors, food stalls.it's like you're in a mall....lol.pizza,lechon,doughnuts,sizzling,odd balls, name it and you'll have it.it only proved that filipinos really love to eat and afraid of starving :-)

I heard from the news that the number of people who went to the Manila North Cemetery alone were more or less 3Million.and im glad that there were only few incidents reported about people who were arrested for drinking alcohol and gambling.I was a little apprehensive while we were shoving our way past the people going inside the cemetery,i had some weird thinking, what if some mentally-ill people thought of throwing a bomb there, surely, there will be lots of innocent people will get killed including us.I thank God we all went home in one piece.Thank God also that the event went all well.

Also,it's not only that we are celebrating this occasion yearly to remember the death of our love ones,we're also celebrating my mother's 75th birthday.

Happy Birthday to my Nanay!!!

Barangay Election

Yesterday, after i went to the market,me and my mother went out to vote to exercise our rights. There were many people walking down the street, familiar, strange faces, they are everywhere,oh and there are lots of policemen but most of them are sitting in the corner of a store hehehe.was there a traffic?of course! That's why we just walked.

In front of the school, there were people who were blocking the way, giving out flyers of their candidates, those from my place attempted to give me flyers but i chose not to get it.why?what for?no matter how i memorized their names,i dont know those people.those are the ones that i have just seen during the campaign but who are they anyways?i was asked by my mother along the way whom shall i vote for a barangay captain,i told her i'll just cross it and leave it that way,she told me to vote for her candidate,i told her i dont know him and for me he's not qualified, she grunts but she didnt say any word anymore coz she knew me.

Inside the precinct,i immediately looked for my name and went inside, the assigned teachers gave me my ballot and i quietly went to a corner and started writing.i just voted for 3 people for Kagawad, those 3 that i carefully chosen and i know that are capable with their duties if they'll win.although I knew them eversince I was a kid,I also knew that they're the ones that our Barangay could depend upon whether they're a public servant or not.

And last night,at about 7pm,there was a parade, a man was holding a megaphone announcing who won being a Barangay Chairman together with the new Kagawads. They're all happy. The 3 people that i voted werent included and they didnt win.but it's ok.i know even if they didnt make it,they can still help other people and our Barangay.

To those who won,i congratulate them, for having the position, and for being one of those people from the government.....CORRUPT!

But I still hope they could make a difference so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt....hmmmm!

Executive Clemency for Erap

It's now all over the news,President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo granted Former President Joseph Estrada an Executive Clemency, after more than 6years of house arrest,Joseph Estrada is now a Free Man.The President signed the said pardon after he publicly admitted that he wont seek any other elective office.(read more....)

Many are wondering why it was just being discussed and yet,she immediately signed and granted it?According to Sec.Puno,it was being discussed long time ago and they've already thinking about it even before.

Well,if a person like the former President Joseph Estrada who's been guilty of PLUNDER was able to be freed, how about reviewing the cases of those small people and has no power over the government or whatsoever and yet they are rotting in jail because of small crimes, and those who didnt really commit any crime but were just victims of circumstances?I bet it will be more easy for our authorities to give them pardon right?

I wish!

Glorietta Bombing

There are other people who only think of themselves and not the others. They dont care if innocent people will get hurt or killed from the result of their anger or shall i say pride?Whatever! The likes of those people were the ones who's behind the Glorietta bombing, they deserved to be punished by taking the lives of those who are just starting to live their lives, those whose dreams are about to be reached, those whose families are depending on them, those kids who were waiting for their parents to come home....

I remember the time when somebody planted a bomb at LRT Blumentritt station, there were lots who died and got injured. That was Rizal day,2001 if im not mistaken.I was still working in PLDT,and that was the exact time when i usually ride a train in that station,I was lucky and i knew God saved me because it was my rest day when it happened.everybody from my office sent me text messages and asked where i was because they knew i was coming from that way.Boy was i really glad that i didnt have to go to work that day!but my heart went to the victims and their families.

Last Friday,it was Glorietta 2,latest news said that 11 have already died and 116 were injured from the blast.i used to frequent that place it's always full of people from all walks of life.I was thinking if those people behind it really human?because if they were, they will have a conscience and will not do such thing.ahhh...this world's getting crowded,it's a dog eats dog!a survival of the fittest!what will happen in the future?how about our kids? will they be safe walking in the streets even in a broad daylight?no,it's not safe anymore, and it's scary!and it's getting scarier when most of the newspapers' headline were chaos and crimes all around the globe.

I only wish that this would stop so no more innocent people will be killed nor harmed again.

Let's spread peace and love to everyone because this world has been given to us to enjoy and not to harm each other. It's only once that we will pass this world, why not give ourselves a chance and make this world a nice place to live in.

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH!

Walis Tingting

Coconut tree is known to be the "Tree of Life" because of its many uses.from its leaves, fruits, trunk, coconut husks, roots, there's nothing that can be put to a waste.and one of its by-product is the "Walis Tingting".

Walis Tingting or broomstick is used for sweeping the floor.it is common to every Filipino household .it can be found in any supermarkets and from your nearby sari sari stores.it is made out of the rib of dried coconut leaves that are binded together(see picture attached). Its price ranges from 10pesos - 15pesos each.
It is every houswives, housemaids and street sweepers' friend. They are the ones who "abuse" them by constant use.

Also,Friendship is being compared to walis tingting because of its tight bond. Now,will it sweep actor-politician Joey Marquez to jail once proven that he's guilty of having bought a lot of walis tingting and overpriced it by P462,708? It was said to be found by Commission on Audit (COA).Find out here INQ7.

How about using those walis tingting to sweep all those corrupt government officials?hmmm just a thought :p
PEACE!

Festivities in the Philippines

The Philippines was ruled by Spain for a long period of time. The Spanish colonization lasted for more than three centuries or 377 years to be exact, thus explain why majority of our cultures and traditions were contributed by the Spanish-Mexican descent.Folk music, folk dance, art, food, literature, religion and language are the most visible influence by the Hispanics on us.Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia.
Philippines is known for holding annual festivities in different parts of the county. It is to honor the patron saints of different towns, villages or regional districts. The festivities are celebrated with church ceremony, street parade accompanied by bands and fireworks( in honor of the patron saints).Houses are full of visitors and foods are overflowing. Each town or villages or barangays hold game like Palosebo,Agawang Buko, Paluan ng Palayok, dance, singing and beauty contest with lots of prizes to be won.

Dinagyang, Sinulog, Ati-Atihan, Panagbenga or Flower Festival, Pahiyas- these and other festivities in the country are just among that attract many tourists and tradition that has been passed from generation to generation.

Next time you visit the Philippines, think of visiting those places and you'll have a real good time of your life.

Beef Caldereta (Filipino Beef Stew)

It's hard to think what's going to cook for today, with just me and my son,i admit we're not much of a veggie eater ^_~! I know i need to teach my son how to eat veggies and im sorry for myself too,but i've learned already and carlo's learning too.Today, after sending him to school,me and my good friend Gina went to market as usual.I ended up buying half kilo of pork ribs instead of beef coz my son don't eat much of it so i just bought pork ribs, plus the ingredients when you're making a "caldereta".She taught me how to do it,so here it is.

you will need:

1/2 k pork ribs cubed
3pcs potato sliced
1-2 pcs carrot(s)sliced
1pc medium size red bell pepper
1 /4 cup kakang gata (coconut cream)
1 cup coconut milk
1 medium onion chopped
1 garlic clove crushed
1 bell pepper cut into strips
1 small pack tomato sauce
salt and pepper

How to cook:

Pour the coconut milk(for a better taste) in a caserolle add beef/pork ribs and boil until tender.
In a separate pan sauté garlic and onion. Add to ribs broth.
Add kakang gata and tomato sauce, allow to simmer for ten minutes.
Add bell pepper, carrots, and potatoes.
Simmer until potatoes and carrots are tender, then add salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot on individual servings of a bed of cooked rice.

Wanted: Teachers

"Knowledge is the only wealth that cannot be stolen" and i truly believe in it.Everyone of us has been given a knowledge of our own,it's up to us how we will develop and nurture ourselves with it.There are different sources of knowledge, from our parents, friends, books, experiences etc etc but most of the time,we gain it from school and the best "tool" is our teachers.

Being a teacher is a noble profession,it's a never ending learning,a very difficult task but very rewarding.I bet we all grew up where we have high respect with all our teachers. They are considered the living heroes because of their never tiring efforts to impart and share their knowledge to the youth of today.

Before, the quality of education in the Philippines are high. That's why Philippines had a reputation of having the most literate people compared to other countries. My mother used to tell me that during her time, students who have just graduated from elementary were already allowed to teach and they can even speak fluent english and spanish.Even during my elementary and high school days,i can tell that my teachers were really good. But do we still hold the title of having the most literate?

Why is it that there's a shortage of teachers in the Philippines?Did they get tired of teaching the youth of today? And why there are reports that the quality of education are getting poorer?Where are the quality teachers that we used to have?

Because the cost of living here in the country are getting high and the growing needs of teachers overseas plus the inviting high salary and benefits it gives not only to them but also with their family, most of the brightest are already teaching abroad or worse, they migrated to work as a caregiver or domestic helper. Isn't it alarming?

Due to this problem,Caloocan Rep Mitzi Cajayon filed a Bill(House Bill 800) that was introduced by Sen. Edgardo Angara ,it is the “Act Upgrading the Minimum Salary Grade Level of Public School Teachers in the Elementary And Secondary Levels from Grade 10 to 15" ,this will give public school teachers a much needed salary hike.

But then, without giving them a competetive salary,we might end up losing the best teachers in the country and it will result to the continuous sinking of the quality of education.

Hello Kitty

The weather is a little bit cold today and it's raining,i was being lazy so from the window i looked outside, there's really not much to see really, just the house of our neighbors and their roofs. But there's one thing that attracted my attention,i saw 3 cats downstairs,2 kittens and their mother( i think so ), at first i watched them from afar,i saw their mother moving her tail back and forth while the 2 kittens were playing at it.Their life's just like that, all they need is food to live and a shelter but majority of them can be found roaming the streets. And most of the time, their life's in danger, coz while finding food, they're being the victims of human's cruelty and that's sad.I hope this would stop and let's give them a chance to enjoy life after all, just like us,they're created by God and they've given a place here on earth.Stop cruelty to animals!

Back to my topic,i watched them for a while but wasnt contented enough so i grabbed my digicam and hurriedly went downstairs.i turned on my camera and took a video.

Enjoy!

The Philippines

The Philippine Island is surrounded by bodies of water and is rich in natural resources. That’s why many are asking especially the youth of today why there are countries like Japan that has been destroyed and devastated during the World War II and yet they easily recovered and is now considered the richest in the East. And why is it our country’s being left behind?
But then we know that the progress of one’s country differs from the source of their livelihood, another one is their people.Although it’s a common knowledge that the Philippines is rich in natural resources, from deep down the ocean to the forest. While Japan are not lucky enough to be given by this kind of resources, they were given a community of people that are rich in talent, like us Filipinos who’re also hardworker, honest but well-disciplined.A small country like Taiwan who’s well known before as Formosa was able to upgrade their living status and is now being look upon by other neighboring countries. While the over-populated country of China, are doing very well too.
But no matter how rich a country is ,if the people will not take care of it properly,it will just only be put into a waste.Great example is our country, The Philippines. We all knew that we have waters that are rich in sea foods,we used to have a lot of trees and animals in the forest. We were the number one importer of rice but now, little by little, animals become extinct because of hunting, illegal logging, dynamite fishing and the continuing illegal activities that destroys our nature.Come to think of it,isnt nature getting back at us?Yes! and it’s really scary!
And the price of it? Flood, soil erosion, the outbreak of different kinds of disease which resulted from death of our countrymen. That’s why we need to act,we need to unite and do something about it.let’s not destroy our forests, let’s not destroy the future of our kids.let’s learn how to be disciplined so we will be able to leave a nice dwelling to our kids, the future generation.
The world is such a nice place to live in,let’s take care of it.after all,God created it for the human beings to live here.Let’s all be human and give back something good from what has been given to us.
